Bert Nienhuis has been a professional photographer since the early 1970s, specialising in documenting social circumstances. Additionally, he makes portraits and reportages for publications such as Vrij Nederland, where he worked with Ischa Meijer, Bibeb, Gerard van Westerloo, Max van Weezel and Joop van Tijn. Celebrities like Andy Warhol, Harry Mulisch and Shere Hite have also posed for him. The meticulous image layout whereby portrait photos were interspersed with reportage photos lent his work a new dynamism and met critical acclaim.
A retrospective of his work was shown in the Jewish Historical Museum. We designed both the book and the exhibition in close collaboration with Bernadette van Woerkom, photo curator of the JHM, and Bert Nienhuis.
