The International Institute of Social History (IISG) in Amsterdam is the biggest documentation- and research centre in the world in the field of social history: it collects, maintains and makes available the heritage of social movements worldwide. The institute is an archive of the often-threatened cultural heritage of the labour movement and other emancipatory groups and factions. This publication focusing on the developments within the IISG during the last five years, and taking a look into the future, is primarily intended for evaluation committees for research and collection of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (Koninklijke Nederlandse Academie van Wetenschappen, (KNAW) but also serves as a basis for discussion regarding the future of the IISG across the different departments.
