Throughout Europe, nuclear energy is being promoted as a clean and green form of energy, while millions of inhabitants of the former Soviet Union are forced to live in areas heavily infected by atomic trials or wilful dumping of radioactive material. This book depicts the nuclear devastation in the former Soviet Union: Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus, the Ural and Siberia. It focuses particularly on the horrifying consequences of the experiments carried out by those in power, the military and scientists. Chernobyl may epitomise the most infamous nuclear disaster in history but it was certainly not the only one, and by no means the worst.
